An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed burglary victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the property was not taken in the first place".
Media reports about the supposed taken remains attracted social media comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".
The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was not true".
The teenager was detained at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had failed to contacted the family by the time of his passing.
Isolation and Anxiety
His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".
When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he needed, but refuted removing anything.
Online Bullying
In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.
The inquest heard that a young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.
She had no concerns on the night before he died, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".
She described him as a "caring, loving" boy, and said her "family is totally devastated".
He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".
Educational Response
The hearing received testimony from school staff at the local High School.
On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".
"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.
After the discussion, the educator said she called the family's parents' landline and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.
The court learned his family said they never got that message.
Formal Finding

Delivering a narrative finding, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.
"Probably untruths were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.
"During 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and following his questioning he was released while investigations continued."
The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his intent."
