Nintendo Switch 2 Receives First Major Software Patch Full with Useful Additions

This Nintendo Switch 2 has received its initial big software patch, release 21.0.0, and while there isn't anything totally revolutionary, there are plenty of convenience improvements to be enthused over.

New Game Card Icons Bring Easy Recognition

One of the prominent additions includes fresh symbols that display over a game card, differentiating whether that game is an original Nintendo Switch release, new Switch, or digital copy.

This addition has been favorably regarded by players, with many applauding it as a "nice touch" that helps give the interface feel more alive.

Enhanced Friend Search and GameChat Features

While locating users to add as a friend, the Search for Users You’ve Played With feature under Friend Requests now incorporates people you've interacted with in your buddies' voice channels.

Regarding in-game chat, several enhancements are implemented:

  • The title won't enter sleep mode on its own during conversations.
  • A setting to turn off “Chat Audio Panning” is added.
  • Communication remains active if the system goes from TV mode to on-the-go or Table mode, including when this change leads to the connection transitioning from a wired link to a wireless one.

Efficient Downloads and Gamepad Audio Options

When installing multiple pieces of software concurrently, you now have the option to stop all downloads with one click.

With Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller owners, a additional low-latency sound setting has been added, enabling you to select between “Stable” or “Low Latency” settings.

Low Latency lowers audio latency when compared to “Stable” but could be more susceptible to problems in certain wireless environments.

Digital Title Data Installation Enhancement

Another significant enhancement enables you to install data for a digital title whether or not the “Use Online License” setting is disabled.

This setting is accessible in the Menu of a downloadable software when accessed via Virtual Game Cards from the main screen.

Additional Console Upgrades

Beyond these headline additions, the patch brings various other enhancements:

  • Ease of access changes: Voice reading will speak auto-complete letters on the Japan layout, and the voice tempo top speed was increased from 300% to 400%.
  • Display options: Enhanced contrast is now called to “System Screen’s HDR Output,” and display calibration is more straightforward to adjust.
  • Notifications changes: The feature "Platinum Point Notification” has been retitled to "Nintendo Switch Online Notification."
  • System options: Battery management offers “Stop Charging Around 80-90%” instead of the former “Stop Charging Around 90%” option.
  • Regional options: Thai and Polish are now included to the selection of supported locales, though they will only be usable in games that support the corresponding language.
  • System-wide stability improvements to improve the gamer's enjoyment.

This software patch signifies a notable improvement for the updated system, offering a variety of useful features that improve the overall gaming experience.
